Tom is a cat, and Jerry is a mouse. Tom naturally wants to catch Jerry, but Jerry isn't about to let Tom capture him without putting up a fight. This, in a nutshell, was the premise of one of the most popular cartoon series ever, Tom and Jerry, and this home video release collects 14 of their most popular MGM short subjects. Cartoons featured include several musical outings ("The Cat Concerto," "Zoot Cat," "Johann Mouse," and "Solid Serenade"), a horror parody ("Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Mouse"), a trip to the golf course ("Tee for Two"), a visit to the beach ("Salt Water Tabby"), and encounters with other animals ("Kitty Foiled," "Jerry and the Lion," and "The Little Orphan"). Jerry also offers advice on outsmarting a cat in "Jerry's Diary," and in a special bonus feature, he shows off some fancy footwork with Gene Kelly in a sequence from the musical Anchors Aweigh. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
